Upgrade Wifi card for Inspiron 24 3455

Hi, I have an Inspiron 24-3455 AIO and my wifi connection seems very slow, even though my home wireless is very good for other devices. I am thinking of upgrading the WIFI card to a better one.

I never opened this machine so I do not know if it is doable and if so, could somebody suggest me a good and compatible card? I hope that I could use one of the M.2 AC cards.

I am sorry if this question has been posted before. I searched for the wifi card in 24-3455 but could not find any.

Thank you and happy holidays.

The spec's show the Wi-Fi is current speeds.

Wi‑Fi 802.11b/g/n

Make sure you are set to connect to the router with the "5G" link, if you have optional links.  My router connections show the router name and router name 5G.  5G is the fastest link.  Windows shows both links and the user option to select which link to connect to.  The same thing in my iPhone, both links are shown as available and I had to select which one I wanted (5G).

Before going too far, check to see if SmartByte software is installed on this PC. If you find SmartByte, disable, delete, destroy!

SmartByte caps WiFi speed so getting rid of it might solve your performance issues without spending a dime...

Thanks for the tip. I never heard if this SmartByte and searching in this community indicates that it it is from DELL. The next time I get to that machine, I will check it out.

Thank you. I looked and I think the card has only 2.4. It does not have 5G.

BTW, I had a Netgear wifi adapter (AC) on another desktop and I put it in this Inspiron and I got about 8 times faster. So I think I may go this way and do not have to bother with wifi card replacement.

SmartByte is part of the bloatware Dell pre-installs.

And we end up telling users to nuke SmartByte because all it seems to do is slow WiFi to the point it's unusable. See if that makes the installed WiFi faster.

BTW: Also go to the Windows Power options screen and click the link to change settings for your active Power plan. Then click the link for Additional options.

Make sure WiFi is set to max performance and save the change.

Then open Device Manager and open the WiFi entry. Click its Power Management tab and uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off...". Exit Device Manager and reboot.

Hopefully making these changes will fix the problem.
